Christmas 2018

Christmas began with the lighting of the Advent Wreath. It was busy in church, with three school services, a Christmas Memorial Service, Crib and Carol Service and Traditional Carol Service, as well as the usual midnight and Christmas Day services. In all, 2400 attended during the Christmas period.

The pictures at the bottom are of the congregation at the Toy Service and the congregation, from the back of St Peter’s, during the Crib and Carol Service.

Bengeworth Remembers

The There But Not There silhouettes had been in place for just a week when members of the local community met for a Talk and Tea event. Judith Smart gave a talk about the process of investigating the men named on the war memorial in the Holy Trinity chapel. We learned about some of them and there was a lot of conversation over tea and looking at items on display.

Some pupils from St. Richard’s First School visited on 9th November to look at and talk about the silhouettes. Children from Bengeworth Academy will visit in the coming week.

The silhouettes were in place for our Armistice Anniversary Remembrance Service and will be there for the Bengeworth Remembrance Service next week.

The two silhouettes in the church garden seem to be growing ‘flowers that will not fade’. The silhouettes will remain in place until the end of November.

There But Not There

In association with ‘Remembered ‘
The church will be open from 9am – 3pm every day during November.

‘Remembered’ has three simple but significant aims:

¨ To Commemorate the Fallen through highlighting the sacrifices made. The 2018 Armistice Project, There But Not There,  will be the Centenary Commemoration for the end of the First World War.

¨ To Educate all generations, particularly today’s younger generation, born nearly 100 years after the outbreak of WW1, to understand what led to the slaughter of 888,246 British and Commonwealth men.

¨ To help Heal those suffering from the hidden wounds of post-traumatic stress disorder and other lasting legacies of combat, by raising funds for our beneficiary charities. Today, the mental health taboo of Post Traumatic Stress, or ‘shell shock’ as it was known in the Great War, is being broken and Remembered aims to play a significant role in helping build better futures for veterans and those suffering from mental illness.
